CCTV Cameras and CCTV Systems – A Brief Introduction to the Technologies

Closed Circuit Television or CCTV as it is more commonly known is called this because unlike traditional television equipment it is not openly transmitted; instead it is kept within a closed circuit. In addition to the traditional Analogue CCTV Systems that are fairly common place in most of the UK now, IP CCTV and Megapixel or High Definition CCTV Systems are now also becoming more common. A modern day CCTV System consists of a number of CCTV cameras, either Analogue or IP together with a CCTV Recorder, Digital Video Recorder (DVR) or Network Video Recorder (NVR). A display monitor, normally either a LCD Monitor or LED Monitor and of course all these need to be connected together using CCTV cabling & accessories together with power from a CCTV PSU or Power over Ethernet device.

CCTV was originally developed CCTV and installed as a surveillance and security measure to protect homes and businesses from attack or at least provide evidence of the unwanted intrusion.  However, as CCTV Systems have become more common place and the cost entry point has been lowered; additional usages such as Health and Safety, Sports Activity Recording, Factory Production Monitoring and even Bird Watching have become more common place.  These days the applications for CCTV Systems and CCTV Cameras to be used are almost endless.  We as a company are continually surprised of the reasons why people choose CCTV Systems and CCTV Cameras.
